California State Standards: 5th grade- Science5LS2.B: Students know how blood circulates through the heart chambers, lungs, and body and how carbon dioxide and oxygen are exchanged in the lungs and tissues.
Main Ideas:
The respiratory system passes the air you breathe into the lungs for gas exchange. Oxygen and carbon dioxide are transferred between the alveoli and red blood cell during gas exchange. Cells get their energy from glucose through the process of cellular respiration.

Human Body Discussion
For the past few weeks we have been learning about the human body. This week I want you to discuss the respiratory system. Please describe what the main function of the respiratory system is and explain how each of the different organs in the respiratory system work. Also explain how the respiratory system aids in your everyday life. Please be specific and use content vocabulary from the reading and lectures. You need to support your opinions with facts and/or references to the chapter. Remember, to earn full credit for this discussion, you must post a response, and respond to the comments of two other students.
